Our story
Grumblefish Bagels started with a gap Dr. Phill Mills could not stop noticing. A New Yorker who also owns Grumblefish Music in Lincoln City, he had already opened a full-service music store because the town needed one. Then he saw the same opening for a real bagel shop on the coast. The crew worked on the recipe for a long time, using the best ingredients they could get, until Mills could say they had come up with the best bagels he had ever had, and he grew up in New York. The slower pace of the West Coast, he says, is part of the point. It gives him more time to make a great bagel.
The shop sits in the former Vivian’s Restaurant at 1115 SE First St., just east of Highway 101 at the D River.
Grumblefish bagels also go out the door to The Red Roof in Gleneden Beach and 1st Choice Fresh Markets. The rest are eaten here, often on the say-so of somebody who already tried one.
